Lion Syrup

Region: Midwest

LION SYRUP is a liquid co-product from the ethanol production process, created by evaporating the low dry matter liquid fraction left after distillation. While the solid fraction is processed into Lion Gold, the liquid fraction is concentrated to produce Lion Syrup, a highly palatable feed ingredient suitable for all ruminants.

  • Lion Syrup serves as a valuable protein source, with both degradable and undegradable protein, making it an ideal complement to forage.
  • Highly palatable moist feed that enhances intake and feed efficiency.
  • Low oil content (4%) and moderate protein levels (23%) for balanced nutrition.
  • Consistently produced in a world-class ethanol manufacturing facility, ensuring quality and reliability.
  • Safe inclusion of up to 10% of total dry matter intake, improving the palatability of coarser forages while acting as a natural binder in rations.
Dry Matter 32%
Protein 23%

  • Enhances Digestibility – The combination of degradable and undegradable protein supports efficient digestion and nutrient absorption, optimizing performance in dairy and beef cattle.
  • Improves Feed Efficiency – Acts as a natural binder, reducing ration sorting and increasing the palatability of lower-value forages.
  • Supports Weight Gain & Milk Production – Provides a consistent energy source to promote steady growth in beef cattle and maintain milk yield in dairy cows.
  • Cost-Effective Alternative – An economical replacement for traditional liquid energy sources, helping to reduce feed costs while maintaining nutritional balance.

Handling and Storage:

Lion Syrup is a 30% dry matter liquid, and should be stored in a clean tank, protected as practical from temperature extremes.  The liquid can be moved by pumping or gravity where conditions permit.  Tanks should be sluiced out monthly and deep cleaned every 6 months. Lion Syrup is delivered at 60-70F.  As there is some free sugars plus some degradable protein these types of liquids are good breeding grounds for microbes. Hygiene is important when dealing with Lion Syrup.
